Introducing ACCTION: Disaster risk management software tool at the speed and scale that the climate crisis requires

Cities and communities face increasing impact caused by disasters and crises.
Whilst very few of them have access to rather expensive and sophisticated tools currently available (e.g., ArcGIS, AutoCAD, customized communication systems), most rely on not fit-for-purpose tools e.g., MS Office, paper-based mapping, social media) to act against these issues. As a result, despite the great deal of effort, their actions result in a lower impact than they could actually achieve if they had adequate tools at hand.

In this session, Clurb, with the support of the United Nations Climate Change Global Innovation Hub and BMZ digilab, will showcase their tool ACCTION, which aims at democratizing disaster risk management, allowing even the least resourced cities to take action in an efficient, structured and collaborative manner. ACCTION is a web- and mobile-based tool that allows cities and citizens to work together in preparing for, responding to and recovering from disasters and crises.

This session will present the initial key findings of its results in five countries (Ecuador, Cabo Verde, Honduras, Argentina and Brazil) with more than 100 active users and 500+ data sets inserted, as well as the perspective of governmental entities on their needs and the potentials for using such tools.
